One way to personalize your child's room is to use name art, but that's definitely not the only way! Monograms can help achieve that same effect, but with a slightly more upscale appeal. And it's not just for wall art! One-letter monograms for kids display the first letter of a first name, while 3-letter monograms usually include the first name initial in the middle, with smaller middle and last name initials on either side. You can certainly use the same formats as for name art to display your child's one or three-letter monogram, but keep in mind that because it's smaller, just about anything can be personalized with a monogram — whether you're the DIY type — or not.
DIY Monograms
While you can use any font, some are especially designed with monogramming in mind. Get started by Googling free monogram fonts. Choose a decorative or simple page of card stock or paper, print the monogram on it, and frame it — voila'! You have monogram art for your child's room. As an alternative, you could trace the monogram design onto another surface using the method we described in the name art post.
DIY+ Monograms
Maybe you like the idea of creating your own design but don't have the skills or resources to use it to embroider a pillow, cut out a decal for the wall, or carve wood. That's okay! You can have the best of both worlds with what we're calling DIY+. Put a shout out online or among your local network, and you're sure to find local artisans who can help you apply your design to the object of your choice. Alternatively, you can find crafters at etsy.com that will be happy to create a custom order for you.
If you don't like what you see available from any specific embroidery or cutting crafter, there are many unique and specially themed monogram files for any taste, especially designed for cutting machines or embroidery machines. Specialty monogram decals are also available from some companies.
Manufactured Monograms
From pillows and blankets to wall hooks and drawer pulls, there are plenty of items that you can purchase for your child's bedroom, already personalized with any of the 26 letters in the alphabet. For an even wider variety than larger retailers offer, check out ready-made handmade products on etsy.com.
In addition to those items, you can easily find freestanding letters to display on your child's bookshelf or hang from the wall, including the following styles: • Wood letters
• Lighted marquis letters
• Metal letters
Whatever means you use to incorporate your child's monogram into his or her bedroom design, the effect will be a one-of-a-kind décor theme that adds a special touch, reminding your child that the room isn't just any room, but one designed just for them.
