Even the most well-built, well-finished bookcases may readily become dust collectors - but this does not have to be the case. You already know that one of the most important abilities and disciplines which your child can acquire is reading. The idea is to empower them to proactively choose to read after they have learned to read.

Enjoyment is a key component of a successful student or reader. People who enjoy reading and studying are not only more likely to continue doing so, but they are also more likely to reap significant benefits from them.

Although not all children are born to be "bookworms," there are things which parents can do to encourage their children to enjoy reading. Summer is a great time to help your kids discover the unique joys that can come through the pages of a good book. While school during the day and homework in the evenings may leave little time for pleasure reading during the school year, summer is a great time to help your kids discover the unique joys that can come through the pages of a good book.

The first step in encouraging kids to read for enjoyment is to make reading and learning a fun activity! Celebrating it is much more enjoyable than requiring it. Your child or children may prefer different topics or styles of books than you, but your enthusiasm for reading is essential. Why? Enthusiasm spreads like a virus.

Have you read anything recently that was uplifting, hilarious, or even challenging? If that's the case, let's talk about it! If you enjoy reading and learning, this is definitely something that comes naturally to you. What were your favorite books or stories as a kid? Also, tell your youngster about them. Classics never go out of style.

You can enhance the reading experience by traveling "on location" or adding sensory components to time set aside for reading, in addition to showing personal passion. For example, you may pack a picnic lunch and spend the day by a river to recreate the setting of "Huckleberry Finn," or visit a botanical garden to recreate the setting of "The Secret Garden." Staying at home to read can be a joy if you create a special reading space, such as DIY pallet benches or a literary sign for a "reading garden."

You might even set aside special snacks or light candles particularly for reading. After all, many individuals like going to the fair or a baseball game for that special "sensory" reason. Of course, you'll want to avoid spillable cups and meals or snacks that make your hands get sticky so your book's pages will be protected.

Some authors use specific writing socks or have other routines that you may easily incorporate into your reading time. The idea is to lighten the mood so that it feels more like a special occasion and the stolen joy that it is, rather than a mundane task that is merely another line to cross off on the to-do list.
